Isn't it rather that JWs say they are hated because they love to be hated, it gives them consistency. Rutherford had understood that marketing rule long ago.

How BIG a DEAL is no more Saturday working for Bethelites?
by BonaFide inthe first thread is more focused on why the change?, which has some great posts.. but i want to see what you all say about the outcome of this announcement.. for those of us that have served in bethel we can tell you, an announcement like this is big news.
even small announcements at morning worship are whispered and talked about for weeks in rooms, at work assignments, and in the car on the way to the meetings.
analyze and re-analyze.. this is a big announcement.

Having read NewBoy's report of bethelites' lifes and how they are desperate for any opportunity to get a few $ and make ends meet, I venture that the WTS is well aware of it and, for its own interest, is encouraging them, without saying, to find a part time job in order :
- that they may not be considered by legal authorities as employed (exploited) workers by the WTS but actual volunteers who otherwise earn their keep,
- to let them have a smooth landing in real world, for those who will be laid off in the future. In this way, the society won't have to pay them unemployment allowances, in case some of them fancy to claim those before the courts.

A LOOK INSIDE BETHEL LIFE, THE ORGANIZATION BEHIND THE NAME
by Bethelite Elder inwhen i first came to bethel, the going reassurance was that if you stayed more than 5 years, you would be considered permanent.
many of the bethelites bought into the idea and stayed many years.
however, a few years back they had a test of faith.

Bethelite Elder,
I'm curious to read more about your alleged experience as a bethel elder because, so far what we read from you is just about what we, or yourself, already knew from JWN. I mean When I read NewBoy report of his bethel past life, it had the ring of REAL insider experience. I bet a former bethelite ELDER must be able to deliver very exclusive news about bethel life, high ranking people in the organization, etc. We are waiting.

How would you respond if a Witness tells you that you are "negative?"
by BonaFide inwhen i bring a subject up and then talk about old wt's or the blood fraction, i occasionally get that response.. yes, i know i can reply, "but i am telling you the truth.
don't you want the truth?".
but i am looking for something more subtle, something that can help a witness to get beyond their cognitive dissonance.. but without a standoff.

About 3 months ago I was paid a sheperding visit by 2 elders and I was trying to explain to them that one has to keep a rational approach to any teaching, to "make sure of all things". One week later the congregation was required to mark this brother who expresses such negative comments and weakens the faith of others.

I remember a brother who owned and ran a cleaning business and he went broke just because the JWs he would employ had plenty of other things, claimed as theocratic or not, to do during their working time and, of course, thought that a brother would not object to their doing so : drop a magazine on a route but also go to the post office, to the bank, etc.

An elder I know was accepted to be an International Delegate -$9,000 for 2 people!
by BonaFide inhe is an elder, and he and his wife were "accepted" to go to south africa.
including airfare, hotel, food, general tours, it comes to $9,000.. have any of you experienced this or seen this before?
i was out of the country for some years, so i haven't kept up with prices of being a delegate.. so, if they were to go without the "international delegate" designation, would it still be $9000?.

Hei, Narkissos, stay at home too, with this misty weather ? Have you completed the declaration of your 2008 income to the tax department ?

Even before I was baptized, an elderly sister said, some 30 years ago "well, Aligot will do things with others but always remains an individual" and the brother whom I was studying with pointed out that I would always sit on the aisle in the KH. I had to explain that I wanted to always be ready for the exit. Later on, an elder put it another way, saying that, as a baptized JW, I was on the fringe, sort of marginal, a status which I accepted gladly.

My SIL is accepted to be a delegate to an assembly in France, from an overseas french department. There are a few strings attached to the status, one which I know of is that she won't stay with us during the assy but in the hotel booked by the organisation. Good thing in a way, she's divorced and would like to remarry, will have opportunities for "wholesome association".
